Candid Camera

Is this Little Bunny Foo Foo hopping through the forest? Ah… caught it on candid camera only to find out that it is a flying squirrel wreaking havoc in this Mt Pleasant, PA attic.

Most people don’t think that flying squirrels are in our area, however, Westmoreland County has a fairly good population. This attic is proof.

Only active at night, these pesky creatures enjoy living in colonies. Some residences can host up to 10 to 20 flying squirrels at one time! In this instance, we removed 4 of them.

Bird Entry Through Vents

Birds were able to sit on the ledge of these vents and lift the flapper to gain access to the bathroom vents. We installed powder coated steal vent covers to prevent re-entry. This is a long term solution that protects your home.

Up the Chimney They Rose

Can Santa Clause get down YOUR chimney tonight? This Greensburg home needed Tall Timber Wildlife Service to come to get the chimney swifts before Santa made his rounds.

Most birds cannot fly straight up. Chimney swifts, however, have no problems. They will make nests on the edges of the bricks inside of a chimney.

Once Tall Timber insured that there were no active nests, we chased the birds out and added temporary covers. Now a chimney company can come and repair the stack up to code to prevent farther entry.

Little Brown Bats, Big Brown Bats

little brown bat

Many people think that bats will leave their home for the winter. Sometimes this is true, but many times, this is not.

In our area of Western PA, namely Westmoreland County, we see primarily little brown bats and big brown bats. Little brown bats will most likely leave while the big browns like to stay causing us to get phone calls during winter months.

During the cold months; warm, sunny days will cause the bats to get out of their “torpor” state, or state of physical inactivity- lethargy. Looking for warmer weather, the bats will begin to move around the home.

Because trapping bats during this time of year can cause the bat to perish, it is recommended to do the bat work before winter months if at all possible.

The image shown here is of a bat that was found in a shoe and biting. Of course it had to be sent off to be tested for rabies for everyone’s protection. Tall Timber can handle all of these services, if need be. We just hope that you don’t need them.

Spotted Lanternfly

spotted lanternfly

While completing a bat exclusion on a home located in Irwin, PA, Tall Timber Wildlife Services encountered the invasive spotted lanternfly. This is not good news. Should anyone find a spotted lanternfly, please smash each and everyone! These insects are extremely detrimental to our native and necessary plants.

If attempting to smash these bugs – be alert as they jump and fly really fast. You will need to be faster!

For more information on the spotted lanternfly and the damage they cause, please visit the PA Argriculture’s website.

European Starlings

European starlings were getting into this Jeannette, PA home. Tall Timber Wildlife Service had to remove the soffit in order to be able to remove the nest.

After repairing the soffit to prevent more birds from entering, Tall Timber installed vent guards on the gable vents to prevent birds from entering the attic ever again.

These high-security vent covers will keep anything from raccoons to most flying insects out of your home.
