Bathroom Exhaust Pipe Nest

Vent Cover Exhibit A

Two different houses had birds accessing the bathroom vent exhausts. After cleaning out and replacing some needed bathroom exhaust pipes, we installed new vent covers to prevent further damage and entry. Birds living in bathroom exhausts can bring bugs, mites, and dirt inside your home. They can also damage the exhaust fan and piping.

Loafing Bat Prevention

loafing bat prevention

Currently we are getting many calls concerning bats. Unfortunately, bat season is closed at this moment but please still call us so we can get you on our list for August when the season opens back up.

Here the bats are loafing on the porch meaning at night when flying around they hang out to take a break and leaving behind a lot of unsightly and stinky droppings or “calling cards.”

The solution is applying a clear epoxy to the bricks preventing the bats from clinging. This epoxy is great for eliminating clinging, climbing, or nesting of bats, birds, and other animals.

This action was performed in Latrobe, PA.

Spring Bat Season

Spring bat season will be here before we know it. If you got bat rights now, you will have them a little longer. Even though bats are still in a state of torpor, they can awaken on warmer days and move around trying to find a more comfortable location. This often leaves customers finding bats inside their home. When the weather breaks and we have nights in the 50s we will be running around sealing up homes to prevent bats from getting in.

“Up to Bat” in Black Out Period

Bats we took care of in New Stanton, PA.

bats

Unfortunately, we are currently in the blackout period for bats. Bats are protected from May-August due to the birthing season. Customers often find bats in their living space this time of year. Typically it is young pups, or juveniles that are young and curious. They like to follow air currents and will end up somewhere they do not belong. If you find yourself with a bat inside your home give us a call. We can catch the bat and prepare it for rabies testing if needed. We will also provide temporary solutions to keeping them out of your living space until we can exclude them from your home in a few months.

Custom Attic Vents

This New Alexandria customer wanted a long-term solution to their custom attic vents before the house was painted. Tall Timber Wild Life Control installed custom vents to keep squirrels, birds, mice, and bugs out.

Guano or Rodent Droppings?

We completed this Ruffs Dale, PA bat job back in September of 2022. Having to seal up the entire house, we had to prevent the bats from traveling to a different area of the home.

If you look closely at this image, you can see that more than just a few bats were living here. A lot of people mistake bat guano for rodent droppings. Bat feces will have shiny flakes in them from the insect particles that they eat. They also will crumble very easily. Rodent dung will be very hard to crush.

Little Brown Bats, Big Brown Bats

little brown bat

Many people think that bats will leave their home for the winter. Sometimes this is true, but many times, this is not.

In our area of Western PA, namely Westmoreland County, we see primarily little brown bats and big brown bats. Little brown bats will most likely leave while the big browns like to stay causing us to get phone calls during winter months.

During the cold months; warm, sunny days will cause the bats to get out of their “torpor” state, or state of physical inactivity- lethargy. Looking for warmer weather, the bats will begin to move around the home.

Because trapping bats during this time of year can cause the bat to perish, it is recommended to do the bat work before winter months if at all possible.

The image shown here is of a bat that was found in a shoe and biting. Of course it had to be sent off to be tested for rabies for everyone’s protection. Tall Timber can handle all of these services, if need be. We just hope that you don’t need them.
